Introduction

When you think of becoming the better version of yourself, the best place to go is the Bible.

Even though this is such a big book to read, the principles you come across through Scripture are universal values that if every human were to live by them, the world would easily be a better place than it is now.

In this article, I offer five essential principles that, if we intentionally practice them daily, will help us become better people.

Instead of just listing and discussing these 5 principles, I provided a daily guide to incorporating universal biblical principles into your week.

Sunday: Practice Love

Principle: Love is the foundation of all relationships and every daily action.

Read 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 (NIV):

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

From Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, the above scripture emphasizes the essential qualities of love, which should be the guiding force in all our interactions.

Love is patient, kind, and selfless and perseveres through all challenges.

As you start your week, commit to embodying love in every aspect of your life.

Monday: Practice Faith

Faith is trusting in God’s plan and promises.

Read Hebrews 11:1 (NIV):

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

Faith involves a deep trust in God, even when we cannot see the outcomes. It’s about believing in His wisdom and timing.

On Mondays, as you face new beginnings and uncertainties, strengthen your faith, knowing that God is with you and has a perfect plan for your life.

Tuesday: Practice Forgiveness

Forgiveness enables you to experience healing and build and maintain healthy relationships.

Read Ephesians 4:32 (NLT):

“Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”

Forgiveness is the only way for you to demonstrate the grace that God has extended to you through Jesus Christ.

Holding onto grudges can poison your heart and relationships.

Let Tuesday be a day of releasing past hurts and extending forgiveness to those who may have offended you, just as God has forgiven you.

Wednesday: Be A Servant

Servanthood, which means the attitude of serving others, expresses your faith in Christ and God’s love.

Read Mark 10:45 (NIV):

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Jesus shows the heart of a servant, showing us that greatness in God’s kingdom is measured by your willingness to serve others.

Seize every opportunity, good or unpleasant, to serve those around you, whether in small acts of kindness or significant efforts to help people in need.

Thursday: Be Humble

Principle: Humility involves recognizing our dependence on God and valuing others above ourselves.

Read Philippians 2:3–4 (NIV):

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”

Humility is about putting others first and acknowledging our need for God’s guidance and grace.

As you approach the end of the week, be intentional about practicing humility.

Consider others’ needs and serve with a humble heart, recognizing that we are all equal in God’s eyes.

Friday: Live With Integrity

Integrity means living according to God’s truth and faith in God daily.

Read Proverbs 10:9 (NLT):

“People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.”

Living with integrity means being honest and morally upright, reflecting God’s character daily.

As you conclude the week, commit to integrity in your actions and decisions, ensuring your life is a testament to God’s truth and righteousness.

Conclusion

Focusing on the universal biblical principles discussed in this article and doing it daily can transform your life and enable you to impact those around you positively. Love, faith, forgiveness, servanthood, humility, and integrity are values that will also help you navigate life’s challenges with grace and wisdom. Incorporate them into your daily routine, allowing them to shape your hearts and actions to honor God and share His love with others.
